Obsessed by the idea of getting away and inspired by Louis Vuitton’s latest mens fashion show, I’m embarking on a magical journey that starts in a fancy hallway and ends up somewhere between King’s Cross and Hogwarts.
« The next station is… Marble Arch ».
It feels like forever since the last time I heard this warning phrase on the tube. Brexit and global pandemic surely haven’t made it easy for me to hop on the Eurostar and reach Hyde Parc in 3hours like I used to.
Whether it is for work or leisure, travelling has always been essential to me.
Planning, packing, last-minute passport check-up, coffee break at the station, magazine on the train, taxi or subway from the station to the hotel… I love travelling and everything that comes with it.
Unfortunately, given the current situation, any potential travelling plans are pretty much left to the imagination.
So as I sit in this leather chair, I decide not to mind the gap between reality and fiction and wonder where I could be if I didn’t know where I really was...
The imposing marble columns and subtle touches of dark green that surround me make it all feel like I’m sitting in some kind of Slytherin headquarters, waiting for the Malefoys to take me on their annual family trip to North Scottland.
This fancy hallway also reminds me of Louis Vuitton's latest mens fashion show, « Peculiar contrast, perfect light », an ode to freedom and travel that occurred in a fictional train station where travelers from all around the globe snaked through the green marble corridors wearing the best of mens winter fashion.
Travelling in winter, for both wizards and muggles, requires indeed warm and comfortable clothing. But neither the cold (yet classy) Narcissa, nor the fashion magician Virgil Abloh would let me get on the train without a minimum of chic.
Forget about Ms Malkin, I’m going "Virgil style" for this outfit :
An oversized and long winter coat as a fashion alternative to the wizard cape. I’m wearing mine in grey, in a check print and wish it reached the floor like Virgil’s ones do
A dark green mohair sweater to keep me warm and cozy all along the journey
A white extra long shirt with Mandarin collar that shows under the sweater
A pair of black extra large tailoring pants to feel comfortable while sitting in my window seat
A pair of chunky sneakers that I can discreetly take off under the table coach
A black fedora so I don’t need to care about what my hair looks like after my 30min nap between Calais and Dover
TIP 1: Keep in mind that 2021 winter coat will be long, extra long!
TIP2: If that works for you, what about a nice fedora to upscale your winter look ?
Our train to freedom will soon be approaching the station. Please stay away from the platform edge.
Where will it go? Nobody knows for sure ; although I once heard that it’s not really about the destination, it’s all about the journey.
Hop in, stand clear of the closing doors and get ready for your next adventure!
