Blue, black, washed-out or raw, denim survives the years like no haircut does. From the vintage oversized jacket inherited from a parent to the lucky pair of jeans we keep as a size reference, denim pieces belong to every decent dressing room. Focus on four key denim master pieces.
1. The sexy one: the denim shirt.
With short, long or no sleeves at all, the denim shirt never fails. I like it raw (blue or black) with a front patch pocket. I usually wear it sleeves up, with (or without) a plain white t-shirt with round neck underneath.
Whether I'm in rock or in a fancy mood, I can accessorize it with a leather bracelet or a gold pendant.
But the thing I like the most about a man's denim shirt is that it can be worn by women as well. The contrast between such a raw material and the softness of a woman's skin is almost poetic. Remember Kate Moss's Calvin Klein campaign?
2. The vintage one: the denim jacket.
This one may be my favorite.
I believe the best denim jackets are the vintage ones.
They usually tell a story: The story of a 90s cool kid hanging out at the skatepark with his new walkman or the one of a week-end get away at the seaside in September. Mine belonged to my dad. It’s an unbreakable oversized blue denim jacket with an embrodery on the front left. I can litteraly fit twice in it but I think that’s actually what makes it such a strong fashion piece in my closet.

3. The "everyone has" one: the denim jeans.
Should I even introduce this one ? Skinny, slim, straight, flared, high or low waisted… We all have one in stock but fashion trends dictates whether we can take it out of the closet or not.
One thing is for sure though: it will come back. It always does.
I personnaly like mine slim (not skinny), in black or denim blue.
I like a good pair of Levi's 511 but other brands like Mango Men or Springfield also offer affordable (yet acceptable) options.

4. The daring one: the denim jumpsuit.
Most probably the most dangerous one.
If you don’t feel confident about this, just walk away now or you may end up looking like a sloppy painter from the 80s.
The easiest way to make it work is to wear it with basics : navy blue t-shirt and white sneakers, that’s all. Maybe a striped jersey or a statement t-shirt (the LEVIS logo kind) if you like a little danger.
Finally, top it up with a cool beanie or a nice cap (worn backwards for a bad kid look).
What about you? What's your denim story?
